City’s National Champion, 15-year-old Deia S Urs who has 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate and 1st Degree Black Belt in Kickboxing will represent India in the K-1 girls category at the WAKO World Junior Kickboxing Championship scheduled to be held in Dublin, Ireland from August 27 to September 3. She is the first and the only girl from Karnataka to represent India in Kickboxing at the WAKO World Championship.
Karnataka Kickboxing Association (KKA) General Secretary, C Ravi informed that, the selection was based on her performance at the WAKO India National Junior Kickboxing Championship held recently in New Delhi, where she won a Gold in the girls 15-18 years (- 48 kg) K-1 category. WAKO India President C A Tamboli will head the Indian Kickboxing team.
Kick boxers, both boys and girls from all over the world including Africa, Asia, Pan-America, Europe and Oceania will be participating in events which are divided into 7 categories including Musical Form, Point Fight, Kick Light, Low Kick, Light Contact, Full Contact and K-1. WAKO India is a member of World Association of Kickboxing Organ- isations, which is affiliated to Sport Accord and International Games Association (IWGA) and International Olympic Committee (IOC).
WAKO India is also the member of WAKO Asian Kickboxing Federation and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
