Mysuru, August 29:- Deia Urs bagged a gold medal in 16-17 years Girls’ Junior Kata Category at Mabuni Cup 2018 held in the city recently.
All India ShitoRyu Karate Do Union (AISKU) organised Mabuni Cup at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium here. Around 400 hundred participants affiliated to All India ShitoRyu Karate Do Union from Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka took part in this prestigious event.
In the 16-17 years Girls Junior Kata Category, current State Junior and Senior No 1 seed Deia Urs beat Charu Sharma of Sikkim 5-0 in the quarter-finals, beat N Velangini of Tamil Nadu 5-0 in the semi-finals and clinched the gold medal by beating Sahana Sandigda of Telengana 5-0 in the finals.
Deia Urs will be representing India in the Female Junior Kata Division at 15th Asia Pacific ShitoRyu Karate Federation Championships to be held at Jakarta in Indonesia from November 22 to 25.
Third Degree Black Belt holder Deia Urs is being trained by her father B S Srinath Urs, who is an Accredited and Certified National Kata Coach of Karate Association of India (KAI), the National Federation for Karate in India, which is affiliated to Indian Olympic Association and recognised by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. KAI is affiliated to World Karate Federation, which is recognised International Olympic Committee.
Both practice under the guidance of AISKU president C S Arun Machaiah and Shuko Kai ShitoRyu Karate Do India president E S Kumar, and will be travelling to Jakarta along with other participants to take part in the APSKF 40th anniversary event in which 2018 Asian gold medalist, WKF Senior World Champion and ShitoRyu World Cup Champion in Karate Kata Female Division Kiyou Shimizu will be taking part. -KK
