Devanur Mahadeva to be conferred with ‘Vishwamanava’ award

The popular Vishwamanava award instituted by Kuvempu Pratisthana will be conferred to noted writer and thinker Devanur Mahadeva on December 29.

Devanur Mahadeva, Mysuru-based noted litterateur, who is a popular dalit writer of the state, will be conferred with the award during the 112th birth anniversary celebrations of Jnanpeeth awardee and Rashtrakavi Kuvempu. According to the selection committee of Kuvempu Pratisthana, they have chosen the name of Devanur for his fearless writing and promoting the beliefs and aspirations of Kuvempu through his works.

The annual award carries Rs 5 lakh and a memento which will be presentedd to Devanuru at Kuppalli, the birthplace of Kuvempu, Teerthahalli taluk, Shivamogga. Retired judge H N Nagamohan Das will speak on the contributions of Kuvempu and Prof Rajendra Chenni will speak on the contributions of Devanur. Revenue minister Kagodu Thimmappa and Kannada and culture minister Umashree will present the award.

Vishwamanava Vidhyarthi Yuva Vedike will felicitate noted writer C P Krishnakumar at a function at JK grounds on December 29. Housing Mminister M Krishnappa will inaugurate the event, wherein CPK will be conferred with Kuvempu Panchajanya award. MLA Vasu, Mysuru Medical College dean Dr Krishnamurthy, VVYV founder M J Suresh Gowda and writer Pradhan Gurudatta will attend the programme.
