Mysuru, August 21:- Mysuru District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Backward Classes Welfare Department observed the 104th birth anniversary of former chief minister D Devaraja Urs at Kalamandir here on Tuesday.
Former minister G T Devegowda inaugurated the event by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Devaraja Urs.
“Devaraja Urs worked for the upliftment of all the backward communities. He provided land to the working class and made them self reliant. He even wanted the last person in the society to get the government schemes. He brought leaders from the communities never heard before and gave power to the oppressed classes. He was into agriculture after graduation. Later, he started his political career as a village panchayat member. Twice he became the chief minister of Karnataka even without the caste politics,” he said.
MLA Tanveer Sait, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, Deputy Mayor Shafi Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, Zilla Panchayat president Parimala Shyam, Taluk Panchayat president Kalamma Kemparayamma, writer Malali Vasanthkumar and others were present. (KS, NGB)
