Mysuru, May 16:- Heritage Committee has already opposed the development works taking place at Mysuru Railway Station.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of South Western Railway (SWR) Aparna Garg gave clarification regarding the development works and said the works would not affect the heritage structure of the station. She said that development works are being done without affecting the original structure.
She was addressing a press meet in the city on Wednesday to explain the development works being done at the railway station. She asked the members of the Heritage Committee to clarify where the development work is affecting the heritage.
“Railway department gives importance to heritage. Before beginning the development work, permission was taken from Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Department of Museums and Archaeology. We explained to the departments about the works in detail. We requested the Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar to visit the railway station and inspect the development works, but he could not visit due to 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Our officials have met him and explained to him about the works. Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh has also inspected the works and asked us to continue with it without affecting heritage,” she said.
“Renovation of building, parking, shifting of office are being done at a cost of Rs 15 crore. The works have to be completed before the monsoon begins or else, the passengers will struggle,” Aparna Garg said.
“We have worked on protecting the heritage since the central government decided to upgrade 64 railway stations of India. We have also formed a Heritage Committee and appointed members for it as well. Heritage touch has been given to all the works. There is no question of stopping the works. We have to finish the works before monsoon,” she explained. (MR/NB)
