Devotees offer prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari on 2nd Ashada Friday

Minister CS Puttaraju, BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje offer special prayers atop the hill

Mysuru, July 20:- Thousands of devotees queued up before Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill here on the second ‘Ashada Shukravara’ (Ashada Friday) today.

As usual the devotees from Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar Districts and other places thronged the hill temple and offered special prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari.

In view of the lunar eclipse scheduled to start on Friday at 11.44 pm, the temple authority of Chamundeshwari Temple announced that the temple will be closed at 9 pm tonight. The pilgrims in large numbers started to visit the hill temple from early as 5 am to seek the blessings of the presiding deity.

As the Mysuru Police have banned the movement of private vehicles atop the hill, devotees took KSRTC buses from the Lalitamahal Helipad Ground in the city.

The sanctum sanctorum of the temple was tastefully decorated with colourful flowers and the delicacies were served by various individuals and organisations at the temple premises.

Minor Irrigation Minister C S Puttaraju visited the Chamundi Hills and offered special prayers on the occasion.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlaje along with BJP leaders Ka Pu Siddalingaswamy and others climbed the steps to reach the hill and offered special prayers.

Meanwhile, the hill temple will remain closed from 9 pm today till 4 pm on Saturday as the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century is scheduled to take place on Friday night.  -(HN,KK)
