Diddalli tribals refuse to budge, district administration faces heat

The ongoing protest by Didalli tribals intensified as the district administration has failed to provide house sites to them.

On Sunday, tribals held a protest in which film actor Chetan, leaders A K Subbaiah, Sirimane Nagaraj, Noor Shridhar and others participated. According to the district administration and forest officers, it is impossible to provide house sites to tribals in the reserved forest (RF) but the agitators do not seem to pay heed to it.

MP Pratap Simha assured the activists that he would visit the spot of agitation on Monday and work out a compromise after discussions with them and the officials. Meanwhile, on December 7, the day the tribals were evicted, the police denied there was any nude protest. They said that the attempt was foiled. On Sunday, a secret video shot by a local was released to the press to prove that a nude protest by a tribal woman and man was held, a clear witness of the day’s extreme protest by the harassed tribals.
