Coronavirus pandemic: Disinfectants to be sprayed at all layouts in Mysuru; food to be provided to the needy

Mysuru, April 2:- District in-charge Minister V Somanna held a meeting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on coronavirus pandemic in the district on Wednesday. The meeting decided to spray disinfectants at all layouts in the city to maintain cleanliness, provide food and shelter to the homeless, supply food and groceries to doorsteps and permit the sale of mutton for three days in a week.

Officials of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Police Department, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Fire Brigade attended the meeting. Discussions were held regarding the interrupted supply of water, electricity, food grains and necessary products.

“People are scared of coronavirus cases in the country. It is a situation of a medical emergency. Instead of differentiating APL, BPL cards, the ration should be provided to all,” the minister said.

“Officials have to work in sync. If you have any misunderstanding, leave it behind and work for the welfare of the people,” he said.

“We have to ensure that people don’t come out of their homes. Food and shelter is being provided to homeless people. Fruits and vegetables, groceries should be delivered at doorsteps so that people don’t come out unnecessarily. The ration should be distributed to people who don’t have a ration card as well,” said MLA GT Devegowda.

“Three shelter homes have been opened in Chamaraja Constituency. More centres have to be opened in the coming days. The number of inmates is increasing at the centre opened at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry, making it difficult to maintain social distancing,” said Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra.

He said that permitting the sale of mutton is causing more problems as people are rushing to buy meat. He urged the MCC to spray disinfectants at all the wards.

Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, Commissioner of MCC Gurudutta Hegde, Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha, Mayor Tasneem Bano, Zilla Panchayat president Parimala Shyam, Commissioner of Police Dr Chandragupta, MUDA Commissioner P S Kantharaju and others were present. (MR/KS)
