In the wake of Union government’s decision to disinvest 26 percent stake in Bharath Earth Movers Limited (BEML) to private sector, the employees of BEML held a meeting and opposed the disinvestment plans.
On Thursday, hundreds of employees and staff of BEML gathered and staged a protest in front of the BEML premises in the city.
President of BEML Employees’ Union N K Devadas said “BEML which is a public sector undertaking coming under the Ministry of Defence has four huge manufacturing complexes in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kolar and Palakkad. The company has a turnover of more than Rs 3,500 crores. Now the Union government’s decision on disinvestment is a bad idea and we the employees urge the government to drop the proposal.”
The employees also threatened to intensify the agitation if the government doesn’t back out its anti-labour move.
