Mysuru, April 29:- District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar on Wednesday handed over a cheque of Rs 73.16 lakh collected by the people of his constituency, Yashwanthpur in Bengaluru, to Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens here.
“I had messaged in the WhatsApp group of my constituency and requested the public to donate for Mysuru Zoo as I was coming to Mysuru. I had requested the public to donate from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1.75 lakh for animal adoption. One Sharif has given a cheque of Rs 10 lakh. Many others have donated up to Rs 2 lakh. A sum of Rs 73 lakh has been collected. We will collect another Rs 25 lakh. I wanted to bring the donors to the zoo and introduce them to the administration and the public. But due to lockdown, they couldn’t come. I will invite them to the zoo once the coronavirus pandemic gets over,” he said.
“I request MLAs and ministers to donate for the Mysuru Zoo. There are many donors in the public domain. As tourists are not coming to the zoo at present, it would be a great help for the zoo. The situation has been positive in Mysuru from past few days as no coronavirus cases have been reported. We are hopeful for the condition to remain the same. One patient was seriously ill and he has now recovered,” he added.
While entering the zoo, the minister was made to apply hand sanitiser and undergo thermal screening.
Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra, Krishnaraja Constituency S A Ramadass, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, executive director of Mysuru Zoo Ajith Kulkarni and others were present. (MR/KS)
