Do we look like comedians? CM takes jibe at media

Mysuru, May 20:- Of late, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy seems to be at loggerheads with the media, especially visual media. His grouse is TV channels try to make a mockery of his family members for no apparent reason. At every given opportunity, he hits out at the media that they are partial in their approach.

Kumaraswamy was in Mysuru on Sunday to release two books ‘Samudaya Nayakaru’ and ‘Samajamukhi Srisamanyaru,’ written by senior journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar. The chief minister was in a belligerent mood even as he took a swipe at some of the TV channels without naming them.

“In most TV programmes, you try to portray politicians the way you want. Do you think politicians are comedy pieces? What do you think of us?,” asked Kumaraswamy who looked annoyed with the turn of events in the recent past. He was speaking to media in the city and vented his anger against TV programmes that usually show politicians in bad taste.

“Interaction with media is dangerous. That is why I stay away from them. I am maintaining distance from the media these days. There is no politician in India who can be as close as me with the media. But these days, I am staying away from them. TV channels are exaggerating reports. They reported the way they wanted about Mandya Lok Sabha Constituency during the elections. Thanks to the behaviour of the media, I have lost faith in them,” he said.

“Are we scapegoat for your Television Rating Points (TRP)? Is ‘Ellidiyappa Nikhil’ a programme to be telecast? Why do you use our names to fill your sadistic needs? We are not living because of media, but because of the people of Karnataka. Our family has seen everything, right from the panchayat level to the prime minister’s post. Media doesn’t know what to show and what not to. Don’t make the news the way you want to and spoil the state. I am using harsh words on TV media. I won’t respond to you. Report the way you want to, I care two hoots,” he said.

“The state government will not collapse at any cost. Siddaramaiah is guiding the government. My comment on senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was out of respect for him. You are trying to sensationalise the whole issue. Minister and Congress leader Puttarangashetty has also said he sees Siddramaiah as his chief minister. It is his personal view. Don’t try to dig deep into it,” the Chief Minister said.

Ministers GT Devegowda, Sa Ra Mahesh, Puttaranga Shetty, MLAs Tanveer Sait, Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Anil Chikkamadu, L Nagendra, MP R Dhruvanarayan, JD(S) state president and Hunsur MLA AH Vishwanath and Amshi Prasanna Kumar were present. (MR/KS).
