‘Don’t restrict Women’s Day celebrations to a day’

Noted Gynaecologist Dr A V Saroja urged women to be aware of laws to protect herself against injustice meted out to her

“Today women can be seen carving a niche for themselves in every field. She plays a prominent role in the overall development of a company or an institute,” said eminent gynaecologist Dr A V Saroja.

Addressing the students at Women’s Day celebrations organised by Nataraja Women’s Residential First Grade College recently Dr A V Saroja said, “The word woman itself connotes a positive force. Women’s day should not be restricted to one day, instead it should be celebrated by according her equal rights on par with men as enshrined in our Constitution by its chief architect Dr B R Amedkar who strove for the betterment of the downtrodden in the society.”

“Today there are various facilities and initiatives started by the government including helpline exclusively to address women’s issues, laws to protect women from harassment,” she added.

“Every woman must understand the basics of law, only then will she be aware of laws and rules. Once equipped with the laws she would be empowered to fight discrimination and harassment,” she added.

Advocate Hemalatha, Principal Dr M Sharada, Professor Swethashri A and others were present during the celebrations.

Dr A V Saroja noted that an awareness of laws equips women to fight any kind of discrimination and harassment meted out to her.
