Mysuru, February 7:- “The University of Columbia has proudly announced Dr B R Ambedkar as one of the ten greatest intellectuals in the world,” said Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM) Prof G Hemanth Kumar.
He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day national level seminar on ‘Dr B R Ambedkar – voice of the deprived’ organised by the Department of Public Administration of UoM held at the BM Shri Auditorium of the Department of Kannada Studies, on Friday. “Dr BR Ambedkar is the greatest thinker the world has ever seen. That is why the United Nations has given him the title ‘symbol of knowledge,'” he said.
“Ambedkar studied and researched 18 consecutive hours a day at the London School of Economics. That is a world record. He is an inspiration to today’s teachers and student community. Though he suffered from poverty and untouchability, he overcame all. He has MA and PhD degree from University of Columbia and MSc degree from London University. Though he did not live long, he strived for the betterment of Dalits, women and the deprived. Constitution plays an important role in building a strong and prosperous India. Ambedkar also received an honorary doctorate as a Constitutional expert,” he said.
