Dr Renu Agrawal’s book on ‘Converting agri waste into useful products’ to be released tomorrow

Mysuru, August 24:- A book ‘Converting agriculture waste into useful products’ authored by the renowned Mysuru scientist Dr Renu Agrawal will be released at a function at Chetan Garden at 11 am in the city on Saturday.

“Agricultural wastes are obtained after the production and processing of agricultural products. It is possible that these can benefit the human mankind. The economic values should be more than the cost of collection, transportation and processing for beneficial use and should be economically feasible. In agriculture, many wastes are obtained. The use of chemicals in agriculture also affects the environment which causes a lot of pollution.”

“The wastes generated from crop have a good potential to convert into energy or can be converted into useful products. The waste produce from animal waste and crop residues has many physicochemical properties. The present book deals with the research work carried out in the past related to conversion and utilisation of agricultural waste into useful products and to increase their economic values. Dr Renu Agarwal’s book mainly aims at analysing the various applications and research carried in the fields of potential utilisation of agricultural wastes.”

“The recycling and utilisation of agricultural wastes is an important step forward towards environmental protection, energy structure and agricultural development. The recycling and utilisation pathway of agricultural wastes have also been discussed. The book also deals with the laws and regulations and strengthening of rural market. It will provide more comprehensive fundamental information for the recycling and utilisation of agricultural wastes during the modernisation and urbanisation around the globe.”

Dr Renu Agrawal is a member of National Expert Advisory Committee, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

She is serving in the expert committees of Young Scientists and Technologists, ASAR and CODER for projects in desert and cold desert areas, KIRAN scheme of Indo-US fellowship forum, Deen Dayal Gram Sankal Pariyojna, National Chidren’s Science Congress. All these committees come under DST (Department of Science and Technology), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

She is an executive member of National Academy of Biological Sciences, has authored books and writes newspaper columns regularly for the benefit of common man.

Dr Renu Agrawal is a science communicator and reviewer of fifteen international journals for the research work. She is also an editor of six research journals nationally and internationally.

Dr Renu Agrawal, a former chief scientist of CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru, is also a recipient of the prestigious ‘Abdul Kalam Life-Time Achievement Award’ from International Institute of Social and Economic Reforms and Nari Shakti national award.
