Considering the yeoman service in the field of healthcare Dr Thimmappa Hegde was honoured as part of World Doctors’ Day on Friday at JSS Hospital. Dr Thimmappa Hegde is the Director and Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at Institute of Neurosciences at Narayana Hrudayalaya.
Receiving the award, Dr Thimmappa Hedge delivered a special lecture on ‘Is there a meaning for suffering?’ where he said that as doctors, they come across patients with different diseases and disabilities.
“There is a lot to learn from them. When we start discovering the meaning of suffering, we recall our patients. What we learn from a patient every day is how lucky we are as we are equipped with the knowledge to treat them,” he said.
“Millions of people around us have different disabilities and they feel it is their ‘Karma’. But our ancient history suggests transforming our Karma to Yoga. Three major things teach us the lessons of life – disease, disability and death. Everyone is afraid of death but only when we are ready to die we are ready to live. This is the mantra of life,” he added.
Registrar of JSS Medical College Manjunath, Director of JSS Hospital M D Ravi, Principal Dr H Basavanna Gowdappa, Superintendent of JSS Hospital Dr Guruswamy and others were present.
