Mysuru, June 8:- “Instead of appointing deserving and experienced Dr V Nagesh Bettakote as the vice chancellor of Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, Dr R Rajesh, who is much junior to him, has been given the mantle. This is because Bettakote is a Dalit,” said district organising secretary of Dalita Sangharsha Samithi, Choranahalli Shivanna at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Thursday.
“Dr Rajesh has been Social Science professor for two years and has no knowledge of arts and aesthetics, but Dr Bettakote has taught performing arts and has served as a dean as well. Just because he is a Dalit, he has not been chosen,” Shivanna alleged.
“Two Dalit students were not allowed to write exams because of attendance shortage but have paid fees. Previous VC Dr Sarvamangala Shankar misused the power by permitting a study centre at Gorahatta Mutt of Basavakalyana without any permission from the Syndicate or the state government. There are seven courses in the university. Though there are no takers for BA course, to provide a job for a person of her choice, a single student has been taken for MA course and guest lecturers have been appointed,” he alleged.
Shivanna asked the concerned authorities to appoint someone else in place of Dr Rajesh or face stern protest.
