Education is one of the key tools to achieve women empowerment, opined Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director K Radha, on Thursday.
She was speaking after inaugurating Literary and Sports Forum of JSS PU College for the academic year 2016- 2017 at its premises.
Radha said that girls with little or no education are more likely to be married as children, suffer domestic violence and continue to live in poverty. “We have to create the right environment in which change becomes acceptable. Education is key to empowerment of women; the quality of education imparted to them and their access should also be ensured. The government has come up with various programmes and the schemes like Bhagya Jyothi which has helped many students from rural background,” she added.
She stressed that the girl students should be made aware of the rules and laws pertaining to women from an early age as it builds confidence among them.
Further Radha encouraged the girl students to be part of literary and sports activities as it helps in overall growth of one’s personality and would benefit in the long run. India has produced many women leaders and our girls should emulate them and become one among them.
Venkatesh of Physical Education Department, University of Mysore; JSS PU College Principal Suresh, Cultural Forum convenor M T Rajeshwari and Sports Forum convenor Shiva Kumar were present.
