Election code: Petrol bunks face the heat

Mysuru, May 9:- “The implementation of election code of conduct has made it difficult for the petrol bunk owners and employees to carry the cash to bank or home. Petrol bunk owners should be allowed to deposit their money in their banks without hassles,” said Karnataka Petroleum Dealers’ Association president Basavegowda at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Tuesday.

“Lok Sabha, municipal corporation and village panchayat elections are in line. How can we do business if such checking is held every time? Ninety percent of the transaction of petrol bunks takes place in cash. Every day, Rs 15-20 lakh transactions are held. We can’t carry bills for this amount. When we requested the Deputy Commissioner on April 11, he asked us to speak to Additional DC T Yogesh. But the ADC said he could do nothing as the election code of conduct is in place and would ask the officials to consider such cases, but nothing has happened.  Rs 85,000 – Rs 11 lakh has been seized from petrol bunk owners. It has not been returned even after giving proper documents,” Basavegowda said.
