Elephant ‘Gowri’ fit to return and serve at Srikanteshwara Temple

Mysuru, September 3:- ‘Gowri,’ the elephant of Srikanteshwara Temple, is now fit and fine and will soon return to serve God in the temple town of Nanjangud.

She was undergoing treatment at Anekal Rehabilitation Centre for elephants at Chunchanahalli in Maluru taluk of Kolar district since two years following an injury on her right leg. Gowri has now recuperated completely and she will be brought back to Nanjangud. She used to fetch water from Kapila River for the abhisheka of Lord Srikanteshwara. She has been a favourite of tourists at the temple and has been serving at the temple since 1989. She was brought from Thithimathi in Mattigodu forest area, Kodagu district. (KS, NGB)
