The elephant rides which were resumed last week at Mysore Palace, is likely to be stopped permanently, as members of the erstwhile royal family have urged the department of forests, to take the elephants back to their respective camps.
Sources said that Pramoda Devi Wadiyar has approached the forest officials to take back three out of five elephants.
At present there are five female elephants at the palace and the palace staffs is unable to manage the elephants.The palace will retain only two elephants to perform the rituals like pujas, sources added.
Elephant rides had been suspended, six months back, at the insistence of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar when videos shot by tourists were submitted to him, which displayed the animal keepers ill-treating the elephants. However, the elephant rides were resumed on March 15.
