Mysuru, October 5:- A couple of rogue elephants entered Utthenahalli village in Periyapattana taluk and destroyed crops worth lakhs of rupees here on Wednesday. The elephants destroyed the solar fencing as well.
The elephants seemed to be in a murderous mood as they went on a rampage while destroying paddy, corn and other crops worth lakhs. They also uprooted solar fencing that was constructed to protect the farms. The jumbos entered fields belonging to Kamalamma, Raju, Bhagyamma, Jagadish and Putta Mahadevappa. They destroyed the paddy crops at Jagadish’s farm and ate up corn grown at Naveen’s farm. They damaged the solar fencing at Raju and Putta Mahadevappa’s farms. Farmer Shivashankar has expressed shock over the loss incurred due to the elephants’ attack.
The pits dug around the fields to prevent the entry of elephants have been filled with soil again due to heavy rains. It has become easy for the elephants to enter villages without problems. Farmers are demanding permanent solution for the problem. Farmer Naveen said that even after two years of applying for the compensation, no action has been taken. (MR/RBR).
