Mysuru, September 21:- “Students should embrace sports activities as part of their daily lives,” said Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Dr Vidyashankar S.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Jnanavahini’ and sports activities programme 2019-20 of Yuvaraja College at Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar Hall here on Saturday.
“Many times, when we light a lamp at a function not all get lit. but here, the lamp is shining brightly which gives me confidence that the students will go in the right path and shine,” he said. “India has a population of 130 crore. But we have not achieved much in the sports field,” he said.
“Every student must include sports as part of everyday life. Along with studies, dedicating one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening to sports activities will keep one healthy and fit. Keeping all this in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched ‘Fit India’ campaign. In this computer age, we sit in front of computers most of the time. From this, we will lose control of our health and fitness. Youngsters are stuck with mobiles and laptops almost all the time and forget about physical activity. There is a great need for the sport. Cultural activity is as important as a sports activity. In the Mysuru region, we get to see a lot of cultural activities, he added.
Director of Physical Education Department Dr M Rudraiah, Examination Control Officer Dr HB Mahesh, Co-ordinator Dr S Suresh and others were present. (MR/KS)
