EMU hits platform buffer at Sealdah station;21 injured

Prime News, Nation, Kolkata, July 19:-At least 21 passengers were injured after an EMU local hit the buffer of a platform at the Sealdah terminal station in Kolkata on Wednesday.
An Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) is a multiple unit train consisting of self-propelled carriages, using electricity as the motive power.

The derailed coaches of the suburban train slanted from their position and came in contact with the coaches of another train standing on platform number 14.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sealdah, Basudev Panda said that a train is supposed to stop five metres before the buffer the train overshot and hit the buffer.
Railway officials said that sixteen injured passengers were rushed to B.R. Singh Railway hospital while five others were taken to NRS Medical College and hospital.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and the driver of the derailed train has been suspended.
