It unfortunate that Kannada-medium (government) schools were being closed down citing various reasons, lamented Department of Kannada and Studies Director Dr Preethi Shubhachandra.
She was speaking after inaugurating the Students’ Union of JSS Residential School in Suttur, recently.
She said that we live in the state of Karnataka, where majority of the people speak in Kannada. Learning Kannada at schools is mandatory. “The present trend to close down Kannada schools is alarming. Language has become a question of survival these years and English language is given top priority. However, as Kannadigas we all should encourage our children to learn Kannada along with English. Education should bring the good in us and learning any language is easy if you put in extra efforts,” she added.
BEO Nanjanagud Chandrakant, convenor Tripuranka, Sampat, Veerabhadraiah, head master JSS High School Shivamallu, head master JSS Higher Primary School B M Siddappa and others were present.
