Mysuru, September 11:- “Encroachment of Raja kaluves (canals) and building houses close to them is the main reason for the recent flood-like situation in Bengaluru,” said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Saturday.
He was speaking to the media at Mandakalli airport on his visit to Mysuru. He was responding to Union minister Ananth Kumar’s statement that the Congress is responsible for the flood-like situation in the garden city.
“BJP was also in in power not long ago. What did they do? We are trying to solve the problems since we came to power four years back. City has been witnessing heavy rainfall since three years. I have instructed minister K J George and Mayor to look into the problems. George is working till 3 am everyday. Copious rain has helped farmers.”
On Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) imbroglio, Siddaramaiah said, “I doubt if KSOU’s licence will be renewed. We have written to central government to solve the issue. The present situation is because of the previous Vice Chancellor.”
When his attention was drawn towards killing of writers and progressive thinkers in the state, the Chief Minister said, “We have decided to provide security to writers. The investigation into journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder is progressing well.”
On the election front, Siddaramaiah said that the elections would be held before May. I am confident we will win again. (MR/KS).
