West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wished her on the occasion.
“Wishing you a very happy birthday Asha Bhosle ji,” Banerjee posted on her social networking site.
Sister of the legendary singer Lata Mangeshwar, Asha Bhosle is one of the best-known and highly regarded Hindi playback singers in India and has sung over 12,000 songs.
She started her career in 1943 and has spanned over six decades.
Asha Bhosle started singing career at the age of 10, the daughter of legendary musician, actor and playwright Dinanath Mangeshkar, she recorded her first single for the movie Raat Ki Raani at the age of 16.
When Asha was 16, she fell in love with her elder sister lata Mangeshkar’s secretary Ganpatrao Bhosle, who was double her age. She eloped and got married to the 31-year-old. However, the differences crop up between the couples and separated when Asha was pregnant with her third child.
In 1980, she took nuptial vows with musical legend R D Burman. Apart from her versatility and talent, the singer is known for her exceptional culinary skills. Several contemporaries and friends from industry vouch for her cooking skills. Bhosle owns a chain of restaurants in Dubai.
