Mysuru, January 22:- “Every school should be provided with drama teachers. Plays should also be made a medium of education,” said senior theatre person Rameshwari Verma. She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Chinnara Chilume’ children’s theatre festival at Kiru Rangamandira of Kalamandir on Monday.
“Theatre is a great school of life. A theatre is not only about enacting plays, but also write plays and also discuss plays. Backstage maintenance and ticket selling is also part of plays. Each step includes education here. Whatever I am today it is all because of theatre. Children should be made to write plays. It will make their minds quicker. If a play on Akbar is enacted, we have to understand what sort of dress he was wearing and the makeup that is required. Chinnara Chilume is a very good initiative. It requires further publicity. Play should also be used as a medium of education,” she added.
“Children are living in stress. Unfortunately, they are not giving importance to extracurricular activities. Students of private schools have to watch the plays staged by government school children. It is a magnificent event to enrich the children’s theatre,” said the president of Karnataka Balavikasa Academy, Shankar Halagatti.
Deputy Director of public education department, Mamata, actor Shivaji Rao Jadhav, regional convener of Chinnara Chilume, H Janardhan (Janni) and others were present. (MR/GK).
