Ex-MLA Mahadevappa Pattan passes away

Prime News, State, (Belagavi), March 2:-Former Karnataka Legislator Mahadevappa Pattan (107), father of Congress Legislator and Chief Whip Ashok M Pattan, passed away of old age at his residence in Ramdurg in this district on Friday.

He was survived by his wife, daughter Sharadhamma, who was former Legislator and present MLA-Son Ashok M Pattan.

According to family sources, Mahadevappa Pattan had participated in freedom movement and in Kara Nirakarane (against Tax) movement against Maharaja Bhave in 1939.

Pattan founded the Lok Seva Sangh for Sarvodaya movement. He served as the Ramdurg Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), defeating the Congress nominee in 1957. Later he joined Indian National Congress (INC). He retired from active politics in the early 1970s to engage in Khadi and other social activities.

The Pattans have the distinction of only two families in Karnataka where the father, mother and son have been MLAs from the same district. The other is of that of Allum Veerabhadrappa who represented Kurgod constituency in Ballari four times in the past.

He served as the Ramdurg Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), defeating the Congress nominee in 1957.
