Fake ‘Baba’ duping childless women arrested by police

Mysuru, May 20:- Being god-men or babas in India is the easiest claim to fame job that requires no qualifications or knowledge.  Seeing this as a profitable trade, many notorious self-proclaimed god-men are using spirituality for their vested interest – making lots of money by deluding people. One such incident of a self-proclaimed god-man or a ‘Baba’ who allegedly claimed to cure women and make them conceive a child with his ‘divine intervention’ has come to light. The baba was caught by alert citizens and handed over to the police.

Twenty-two-year old Venkatesha Nayaka alias Guddappa of Nellinathapura in Nanjangud taluk has been arrested. On failing to complete his second year pre-university course, the accused took to cheating people by claiming that God lives in him.

The charlatan youth used to target women who couldn’t conceive and ask them to stay with him at Dharmasthala overnight. On coming to know about his illegal activities, the villagers caught and beat him up when he was at a woman’s house and later handed him over to the police. Jayapura Police has registered a complaint. (KS, NGB)
