Mysuru, July 6:- The farmers of Kabini River basin gheraoed the Command Area Development Authority (CADA) office here on Friday and urged the state government to immediately release water for agricultural activities.
The members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Sugarcane Growers’ Association alleged that even after 25 days of the dam getting filled, the government has not taken a decision to release water for the crops of the farmers. “25 TMC of water have been released to Tamil Nadu so far. The reservoir was filled last year. But all the waters were released into Tamil Nadu, which ended up in loss of crops for the farmers of Karnataka.” They asked the government to release water immediately for the crops.
They said that the water from KRS Reservoir is released to fill the lakes though the dam is not completely filled. They warned of intense protests if the water is not released immediately.
Organising secretary Athahalli Devaraj, district general secretary Saraguru Shankar, Kerehundi Rajanna, B P Parashivamurthy, Kuruburu Siddesh, Madappa, Varakodu Krishnegowda, Pushpa Prasad, Manikanta and others were present. (HN, NGB)
