Farmers protest against Land Reforms Act amendment; block highways

Mysuru, June 20:- Farmers staged a protest condemning Land Reforms Act amendment by blocking the Nanjangud state highway in front of APMC here on Saturday (June 20).

“Raitha Sangha is staging protests by blocking state and national highways throughout the state condemning the Land Reforms Act amendment. This amendment will harm all farmers. Amending this Act without any discussion in the state Assembly should not be accepted. Instead of providing permanent scientific price for farmers crops, the amendment is made to wipe out farmers from the system. We should condemn the state government for its anti-farmer move,” said the protesters.

“The government has misused the Covid-19 situation and Section 144 in the state. The government is acting as an agent of corporate companies. We will stage indefinite protest against it by blocking state and national highways. This is just the beginning. The intensity of the protests will increase in the coming days,” they said.

Farmer leader Vidyasagar, Ramegowda, S Raghu Himmavu, Manju Kiran, Satish Rao and others were present. (MR/KS)
