Mysuru, July 21:- The farmers should come forward to grow alternative commercial crops instead of growing tobacco, said Taluk Panchayat (TP) president K R Nirupa.
She was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on agriculture at Chittenahalli village in Periyapattana taluk on Thursday.
“Profit can be expected from growing vegetables. But they are not getting the expected profit due to the intervention of middlemen. If an independent market is created, farmers will have no worry,” she added.
Agriculture scientist Dr Manjunath, Dharmasthala Rural Development Project director Seetharam Shetty, taluk development officer Ramesh and Chittenahalli CACS president G N Nagaraju spoke on the occasion.
TAPCMS president K S Yathiraje Gowda, Chittenahalli PACCS former president C N Ravi, Dharmasthala Rural Development Project coordinator Dhananjay, Srinivas, progressive farmer Girish and others were present.
