Mysuru, April 20: Condemning the steep hike in the prices of fertilisers, Mysuru District Farmers’ Association staged a protest in front of the Taluk office at Nazarbad here on Tuesday (April 20). They also submitted a memorandum to the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner to be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Talking on the occasion, the farmers said, “The Centre has also been telling it would like to double farmers’ income but it is not the case. It is only increasing the prices of fertilisers. By doing so, it is trying to force farmers to stop farming activities. As if this is not enough, the Centre has passed three draconian farm laws which are against the farming community. It looks like the central government is playing into the hands of the corporates. The recent hike in the prices of fertilisers will only add to the woes of the farmers. The Centre should withdraw its decision to help the farmers who are already in trouble.”
Taluk-level president P Maramkaiah, Chandrasekhar, Naganahalli Vijayendra, Mahesh and others were present during the protest. (MR/KS)
