“Farmers depending on the Kabini reservoir are fighting for water to save their crops. But the District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa is completely neglecting the plight of the farmers. The officials are behaving rudely. To drive the attention of the minister towards our plight, we will stage a protest in front of the minister’s house on Sunday,” said the president of the State Farmers’ Association, Kurubur Shanthakumar. He was addressing the press here on Thursday.
“At the Kabini reservoir limits, more than one lakh acres of paddy are expected to be harvested. For about a week, water is necessary to save the crop. It requires approximately one TMC of water to save the crop. Around 3.5 TMC of usable water is available in the reservoir. But the officials are not understanding the plight of the farmers,” he said.
“After the demonetisation, the central government has assured to provide kerosene to the farmers with the provision to pay later. But now they are cancelling the ration cards stating that it is not attached to the Aadhar card. This move makes one suspicious about the central government’s intentions.
Athahalli Devaraj, Varakoodlu Krishnegowda, Baradanapura A Nagaraju, Ambale Manjunatha were present in the press meet.
