The Cabinet on Wednesday increased the ceiling fixed at Rs. 11,848 a year for a child admitted to Class One and Rs. 5,924 a year for a child in LKG under the Right To Education (RTE) Act to Rs. 16,000 and Rs. 8,000, respectively following pressure from private school managements.
The Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra said the increased payment would cost the state exchequer Rs. 425 crore in 2017-18.
The new fee to be paid by the government would come into effect from the 2017-18 academic year. Over four lakh students belonging to poor families get admission in private schools under the RTE Act.
