Festivals have spiritual meaning behind them: C H Vijayashankar

Mysuru, October 26:- KM Praveen Kumar of Charitable Trust and Apurva Sneha Balaga of the city distributed clay lamps ahead of Diwali festival at KSRTC City Bus Terminal here on Saturday. They explained the consequences caused by the bursting of crackers.

Former minister CH Vijayashankar inaugurated the campaign by distributing lamps.

“Diwali is the festival of lights. It indicates us travelling from the darkness to light. The light of knowledge and truth be lit in every home. All the festivals of India are joyous. Festivals inspire us to live a better life. Festivals have spiritual meaning behind them,” he said.

“The decision of Supreme Court to ban crackers in the national capital New Delhi is a welcome move. People of metro cities including Delhi have been suffering from health-related issues due to pollution. Not only during Diwali, but the government should also ban crackers all the time. We should understand that protecting the environment is our responsibility,” said social worker Raghuram Vajapayee.

BJP leader Yashaswini Somashekar, former corporator MD Parthasarathy, Vikram Iyengar, Apurva Suresh and others were present. (MR/KS)
