File criminal cases against tender holders who have not maintained drinking water units: Minister KS Eshwarappa

Mysuru, May 22:- Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa instructed officials to file criminal cases against the tender holders who are not maintaining drinking water units and instructed they be added to the blacklist.

He was speaking at the progress review meeting of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department held at Zilla Panchayat Hall here on Thursday.

Commissioner of Rural Drinking Water and Cleanliness Department Dr R Vishal said that the tender holders are not maintaining the units. The minister expressed his dissatisfaction over villages being deprived of drinking water. He instructed officials to take action to increase the groundwater level in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar instructed officials to discuss with MCC and Zilla Panchayat regarding the cleanliness on the ring road.

“Village panchayats don’t have enough facilities for waste management. As the ring road doesn’t come under MCC jurisdiction, they are not maintaining it properly. It would be better if the village panchayats pay maintenance cost and hand over the work to MCC,” the DC said.

MLA GT Devegowda suggested holding a meeting in the presence of District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar to sort out the issue.

Lok Sabha member Pratap Simha expressed his dissatisfaction over naming village panchayat buildings constructed in the funds of the central government after Rajiv Gandhi. MLC Dharmasena objected to Simha’s opinion.

MLAs SA Ramadass, L Nagendra, Ashwin Kumar, Zilla Panchayat president Parimala Shyam, CEO Prashanth Kumar Mishra and others were present. (MR/KS)
