A fire broke out at the currency paper production unit of the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) at Metagalli on Monday.
A short circuit at an oil tank near the boiler house is suspected to be the cause for the fire. The boiler burst and the loss is estimated at Rs 70 lakh.
As soon as the incident came in to light, fire fighting systems installed at the oil storage area were immediately activated and fire engines were rushed from Bannimantap, Saraswathipuram and Hebbal fire stations who brought the flames under control.
The RBI currency paper production unit was inaugurated four months ago and was producing paper on which currency notes were printed.
Later experts from the petroleum and explosives safety organisation examined the site to determine the exact reason and the paper production operations are expected to commence by Tuesday or Wednesday.
