Mysuru, February 14:- Prof D G Rao, director, CIIL, inaugurated the 5-day training-cum-workshop on ‘Testing and evaluation and question item writing’ in the city on Monday.
The workshop organised by the National Testing Service-India (NTS-I) at Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) here for the assistant professors and research scholars of Hindi, Tamil and Urdu of south India conclude on February 16.
Delivering the presidential remarks Prof Rao said that testing and evaluation is a very important area in the education and only National Testing Service Scheme at CIIL is providing training to the teachers and students in this field.
Dr L Ramamoorthy, RRO, CIIL and head, LDC-IL, briefed about the activities of the NTS-I.
He said that instead of testing the content of textbook, we have to test the knowledge and learning skill of the students to achieve this inter comparability among the subjects of our education system which is need of the hour.
Seventy nine assistant professors and research scholars from various universities and government first grade colleges of south India who are engaged in teaching and research of Hindi, Tamil and Urdu are participating in this training workshop.
Pankaj Dwivedi, officer In-charge of NTS-I, said that to become a better and balanced teacher, knowledge of content and proper evaluation methods is a must and added that a teacher should be able to multitask to become an ideal teacher.
Tariq Khan, academic secretary, CIIL; Prof P R Dharmesh Fernandez, professor-cum-deputy director, CIIL and head, NTS-I; coordinators of the workshop Dr Biresh Kumar and Dr Sanjay Prasad Srivastava; Dr V Ilangovan and Dr R Shakunthala, Dr G M Ansari and Dr Md Salim Ahmed, academic, administrative and technical staff of CIIL and its other schemes were present on the occasion. -(KK)
