Flexes and banners hurt city’s dreams of ‘cleanest city tag

Mysuru, January 5:- Heritage city Mysuru is making preparations to become the ‘cleanest city’ in India yet again. Swachh Survekshan 2019, which gives ranking to the cities on cleanliness, has already begun. It will be held till January 31 but if we observe the flexes and banners put up across the city, one would certainly wonder whether the city stands a chance of winning the coveted title again?

Pourakarmikas are working day and night to maintain cleanliness in the city. But the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), which has been warning against the use of flexes and banners, has turned a blind eye towards the flexes put up in front of the Congress office near the Mysuru Railway Station on JLB Road here.

Visitors who land at the Mysuru Railway Station are welcomed by the flexes. It would not have been awkward to this extent if they put up one or two flexes but the entire area is full of flexes. People are asking is it the only way to express gratitude towards politicians?.

MCC talks of cleanliness only during Swachh Survekshan, but is it not its duty to maintain cleanliness throughout the year? (MR/KS)
