Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry, A Manju has said that there is no shortage of fodder in the drought-hit districts of Mysuru division, as fodder stock will last for the next 16 weeks.
“An action plan has been sent to the Union government for a grant of Rs 25 crore,” he said at the meeting of officials of the Animal Husbandry Department on Tuesday. He said that a super speciality veterinary hospital has been sanctioned to Mysuru and Rs 3.40 crore will be spent on the project.
Manju cleared the air of suspicion about reports of bird flu in the state. “An alert had been sounded by the department and the situation is being closely watched by the authorities,” he said. “Surveillance has been intensified at the Mysuru zoo, Kukkaharalli Lake, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and Karanji Lake and the authorities have been asked to report on the unnatural death of birds immediately to the department,” he added.
