Forest officials on Wednesday trapped a leopard which had created panic among people in Aswalu village of Hunsur taluk. It had also preyed on sheep in the village.
The villagers complained that leopard had been on the prowl since three months. On being alerted, the forest staff kept a cage with a bait in an farm land belonging to one Kempegowda. After seeing the leopard trapped in the cage on Tuesday, the villagers summoned the forest staff.
According to the sources, the villagers had complained to the Forest Department about the frequent attacks on their livestock by the leopard and it has also attacked livestock in the region. The trapping of leopard has come as a relief to the villagers.
Forest officers, who visited the spot, said the animal was healthy and would be released to forest later in the day.
