Mysuru, November 8:- Tobacco growers of Periyapattana staged a protest in front of Kaggundi Tobacco Board, led by progressive activist P Srinivas, on Thursday.
As the auction process was stopped on Wednesday due to the lower price, the tobacco brought to the centre by farmers was kept at the premises. The officials and companies decided to resume the auction on Thursday morning. The price of tobacco also went up. The farmers urged to stop the auction immediately and urged to increase the price. The companies said that the price can’t be increased all of a sudden. Enraged farmers locked down the tobacco purchase centre.
Former MLA Venkatesh visited the spot and extended his support to the protesters. (MR/KS)
