Former Mysuru cricketer Subbarao Krishnamurthy passes away

Bengaluru/Mysuru, December 8:- Former captain of Mysore team Dr Subbarao Krishnamurthy passed away at the age of 79 in Bengaluru on Thursday,

Subbarao was a wicketkeeper-batsman born on October 26, 1938 and played the first class match for Mysore against Ceylon XI in March 1958, scoring 26 and zero.

He then made his Ranji Trophy debut versus Hyderabad in November 1959. He went on to play 32 first-class games, compiling 1336 runs and effecting 45 dismissals. He also captained the state side.

Post retirement, Krishnamurthy served as vice-president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and for a while, held the post of chairman of the selection committee.

The Karnataka team paid their respects to Dr Krishnamurthy by observing a minute’s silence before start of play on Day I of their ongoing Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Mumbai. –(KK, Inputs: Agencies)
