Way back in 1947 on the same day, freedom fighters observed Mysuru Chalo, urging the Mysuru Kings to implement democracy and put an end to monarchy in Mysuru. In memory of the movement, the freedom fighters observed the move at Subbarayana Kere on Monday.

Freedom fighters garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Subbarayana Kere and recalled their memories of the Mysuru Chalo, 1947.

“The Mysuru Chalo move was a part of freedom struggle. Since 1947, we observe the Mysuru Chalo every year. Many of the freedom fighters who were part of the freedom movement are no more. Many of the freedom fighters are old and they may not be there in the coming years. But we would like the legacy of the freedom march to  continuedand we are establishing an association which will carry forward the works,” said Krishnamurthy, a freedom fighter.

Lingappa, Siddaiah, Madappa, and other freedom fighters were present on the occasion.
