French Open: India’s campaign ends after Bopanna loses men’s doubles QF

Prime News, International and National Sport, Tennis, Paris (France), June 9:- In the French Open, India’s campaign ended after Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Franko Skugor lost 5-7, 3-6 to the Spanish duo of Pablo Andujar and Pedro Martinez in their men’s doubles quarter-final.

The 41-year-old Bopanna and Skugos lost in one hour and 17 minutes.

The unseeded Indo-Croat pairing had received a walkover in the pre-quarters on Sunday against the Netherlands’ Matwe Middelkoop and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador.

In the women’s section, Russian 29-year-old Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova finally made it to a Grand Slam semi-final in her sixth attempt, outlasting Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina 6-7 (2), 6-2, 9-7.

Anastasia will take on unseeded Slovenian Tamara Zidansek in the semis who defeated world No. 35 Spaniard Paula Badosa 7-5, 4-6, 8-6 in an epic quarter-final match lasting two hours and 26 minutes.

The 23-year-old and world No 85 Tamara became the first Slovenian to make the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
