Parents and teachers of students studying in pre- university course have to take extra concern to mould their children for a bright future and the students also should extend cooperation to their mentors, said B T Kavitha, Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau, here on Wednesday.
She was speaking at the ‘Freshers Day,’ a function to welcome the students who have joined first pre-university course at the Sarada Vilas Pre-University College, in city on Wednesday.
She said that negative attractions were common in adolescent age and students should be more conscious over social media and in utilising the information technology. “Involvement in social media and building relations with unknown persons cannot help them to excel in education. Do not fall in relationships during adolescent age, as several incidents of girls’ future being ruined have been reported nowadays. Students should stay focused on education,” she stressed.
Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions President B S Parthasarsthy called upon the freshers who have enrolled for PU courses, to think of becoming successful farmers and soldiers and not just focus on careers in engineering, medicine and IAS.
He said pre-university level education is important in life for students to develop questioning attitude to understand the subject in detail. Likewise, it’s a new phase for the SSLC students join the PU courses, it is a period for laying the foundation for one’s career, he added.
Giving simple study tips, Parthasarsthy urged the students to prepare a time-table for their studies. “Avoid television and focus on education. Aim high and emulate a role-model like Swami Vivekananda and adopt discipline and morality which takes you to heights of success,” he pointed out.
