Mysuru, February 4:- Mysore and Chamarajanagar District Cooperative Central (MCDCC) Bank chairman G D Harish Gowda, son of Chamundeshwari Constituency MLA G T Devegowda, was felicitated by his followers on the occasion of his 34th birthday at the premises of Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) yard at Bandipalya in the city on Thursday (February 4).
Speaking on the occasion, former minister G T Devegowda said, “when the land was acquired for the purpose of setting the APMC yard to facilitate the selling of agricultural produce brought by the farmers, people had expressed apprehension that the site was in a remote area, but we initially started organising cattle and poultry market once in a week and then the compound wall was constructed before the building could come up. At that time my son Harish Gowda was born and now he is being felicitated by the well-wishers. It gives me immense happiness and shows how much respect the people have in us.”
Devegowda further said that initially the land was allotted to a fertiliser company to construct the APMC building, the agriculture produce was shifted to APMC yard from Devaraja Market despite facing stiff resistance from the traders. “The then co-operative minister K L Jalappa and I had advised traders to weigh the produce by using the weighing scale and issue receipts to farmers and handle the business scientifically, but a few powerful traders who had opposed the shifting of the market to APMC yard, had issued death threats to me. With the police security we had to transport the tomatoes to Bengaluru Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS), and only then the farmers resumed business at the APMC yard.
The event was held under the auspices of Puneeth Rajkumar Yuva Sene and Bandipalya groups, Mysuru. (NAV, HN)
