The honorarium of the members of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has been hiked from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000. The government move comes ahead of the Diwali festival which is round the corner.
But the members of the MCC are not happy with the hike. “Instead of the hike in honorarium, the government would have done well to give us some additional working powers in our wards,” opined many corporators.
“We work more than the MLAs in our wards. We respond to the people quickly. We respond to their problems, but we have no freedom to help and solve the issues,” they reasoned.
“The government’s decision to increase the honorarium of the corporators is a welcome move but what we need is more powers to respond to the people. The MCC members should be given more powers than what we have now,” said Mayor B L Bhyrappa, in response. Corporator of Ward No 14, Jagadeesh also echoed the same sentiments.
