Gold, cash worth over Rs 3.85 crore looted from Kaveri Grameena Bank

HD Kote, September 4:- Burglars have broke open a bank in Mysuru District and fled with 12 kgs of gold worth over Rs 3 crore and Rs 5.14 lakh cash.

According to a complaint filed at HD Kote Police station in the district, burglars broke into Kaveri Grameena Bank (KGB), Kyatanahalli branch in HD Kote Taluk and robbed Rs 3.8 crore worth gold ornaments kept in the bank lockers and Rs 5.14 lakh cash.

The miscreants may have entered the bank premises on Saturday night or Sunday as the bank remained closed for weekend holidays. The burglars have entered the bank premises by breaking the window rods using a gas cutter. It is also alleged that they have cut the power supply to shut down the functioning of CCTV camera and alarm installed inside the bank.

The burglars have then robbed the bank and fled away with gold and other valuables worth Rs 3.8 crore and cash of Rs 5.14 lakh. The incident came to light on Monday morning when the bank staffs entered the office premises.

The bank officials immediately alerted the HD Kote Police officers, who rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation.

Meanwhile, the villagers blamed the bank officials for being negligent and not deputing any security personnel to look after the bank.

They alleged that the bank had no locker facilities and basic security measures and hence, the burglars targeted the bank and looted the valuables and cash.

A complaint has been filed at HD Kote Police Station and investigations are in progress. -(KS,KK)
